《道德經》已經有很多的注解和英文翻譯,大部份還是顯出《道德經》沒有明確的邏輯結構。二千年來,模糊不清的解譯,使《道德經》無法發揮它的功能,並且產生很多負面的文化。我已經更正傳統道家的錯誤。
本書是一個全新,並且有明確邏輯的解讀。我在1973年出土的馬王堆版本,發現老子非常明確的邏輯結構,並且可以從其他八十章用來確認這個邏輯結構,每一章是一個例子。本書是整本《道德經》的白話解義和英文翻譯,反映出老子一致的邏輯。整本《道德經》可以得到完全一致的詮釋。老子的邏輯結構,是首次明確的把它顯露出來。
本書的第一部份討論基本邏輯結構,這是「白話解義」和英文翻譯所需要的基本邏輯概念。這種思考邏輯脫離中國傳統道家思想,而是與西方普世邏輯相同。中國傳統道家並不是老子的哲學,因此本書反映出老子哲學的復原。
在第二部份的解說中,我們儘量保持原始文言文的結構,但是更正了中英文的翻譯。再版增加了每章的中英文簡介,討論每一章和整個老子哲學的關係。附錄中增加了導讀和西方早期的瞭解。尤其導讀是重要的新思考。
本書第一部份及附錄的「漢英對照」兩種語言並不求完全相對的,只求章節的一致。
There are already many translations and interpretations of the Tao Te Ching, but most do not show a consistent logical principle. For two thousand years, ambiguity and fuzziness in the interpretations have not only reduced the usefulness of the Tao Te Ching but also generated many negative cultural backgrounds.
Now I propose a brand new and very logical interpretation. I discover, in the Mawangdui version, Laozi’s very clear logic structure of the Tao Te Ching in the first chapter, and validate the same logic structure by the rest 80 chapters.
This book shows the interpretations and translations of the whole Tao Te Ching to emphasize the consistent logic of Laozi. It is the first time that this logic structure of Laozi becomes exposed. A new introductory summary is added to each chapter in the second edition so that the terse Chapters can be consistently related to the principle of Tao.
We discuss the basic concepts of the logic structure in Part I, which is used in the interpretations presented in this book. This logic is consistent with the ancient Greek and the Western universal logic. The Chinese traditional Taoism is not the original philosophy of Laozi. Therefore, the logic reflected in this book represents a restoration of the true philosophy of Laozi.
In Part II, we keep the structure of the ancient Chinese text. We have updated both Chinese and English translations. In this edition, we add a summary of each chapter to discuss how each chapter reflects the logic structure of Laozi philosophy. A few appendices are added, including a general introduction of the basic concepts and new insight.
The translations in Part I and the appendices are not strictly sentence-to-sentence, but only the sections are maintained with consistency.
